St Mary`s church is the only grade 1 listed building in Calne and has stood at the centre of the community for nearly a thousand years, providing not only a place of prayer and worship, but also a place where a wide range of community events happen.

Our Aim

Project 2026 provides the opportunity to extend the use of the church further, allowing flexible spaces for many more social events, such as more concerts, recitals etc, to take place.

The project will provide 2 toilets, a kitchen with enhanced facilities and improved main access with an inner glass lobby and doors – allowing persons of all abilities to enter the building easily.

The scheme will also include the creation of an exhibition space, a raised dais and performance area as well as some vital repairs to the fabric of the building.

A Community Engagement Officer will be hired whose task will be to share the history connected to the building by engaging with schools, other community groups, and the world in exciting and innovative ways.

The Cost

The overall cost of the project is in excess of £650,000. Over £100,000 has already been donated by our church congregations and access to some trust funds will provide a further £142,000. In addition we are in the process of applying for a variety of grants. We are very confident that, with the help of the community, we will reach the total which will provide a community facility fit for generations to come.

Maintaining and Improving our church for now, for the future, for everyone
